Got a couple of gigs in the UK

Post by Jon Graboff »

I have a couple of gigs coming up in the UK with Laura Cantrell whose CD "Not The Tremblin' Kind" got a 4 star revue in Rolling Stone Two weeks ago. The first is a show at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, Scotland along with Janis Ian, Suzy Roach and Iris Dement on Jan. 28th (I'll be playing some mandolin and guitar on this one, no steel), Jan. 30th in Sterling, Scotland (all three instruments), Jan. 31st at Dingwalls in London and a John Peele session on BBC on Feb.1st. Looking forward to the trip and I hope that any steel players who attend any of the shows say hi. Malcolm MacMaster, hope to meet you face to face.

Anyone going to the U.K. to visit "MUST" visit "The Hobos Retreat" country music club.
Their site is:- http://pages.unisonfree.net/folkimages/hobo/
The couple who mainly run the club are the best you could ever wish to meet.

Bob Mainwaring. Z.Bs. and other weird things.

Jon;

Looks like we can listen in to the Peel Session here Image

Nice playing on the album BTW - did I detect a little nod to Merle Haggard on a mandolin part or two?

Greg, Thanks for the compliment. Yes indeed on the mandolin part. That song, "Queen of the Coast" was "inspired" by Bonnie Owens so the "Lonesome Fugitive " bit seemed appropriate some how. I was told that the Peel show can be heard at www.bbc.co.uk on Feb. 1st from 5pm to 7pm EST. It's LIVE so wish me luck!

Hi, Jon
Where in Stirling? I'd like to see that (it's an hour's drive from me)
Again, really like that solo on "T Stop Girl"

Aian, We'll be playing at the Cowane (sp?) theater on Tuesday. I'll put your name plus 1 on the guest list if I can, so check at the box office. Please say hey if you come!

Thanks for that offer, Jon. I'll certainly try to make it, although I'm playing myself on Tues, in Edinburgh; still, that's not starting 'til midnight, so I'll phone the Stirling theatre and find out what time you're playing and will hopefully be able to fit both things in.
Thanks again - my full name's Iain Barbour, if you can put me on the list
