Western Swing: A Historical Perspective on KCSN
This Saturday, March 24, from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. PST, I will be guest host on Chuck Taggart's "Down Home" program on KCSN, 88.5 FM in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys and www.kcsn.org on the Internet. I'll be featuring "western swing" or, as I like to call it, "southwestern jazz", and the predecessor string band music that led up to it. Of course, the steel guitar was a lead instrument in most bands. One fine example that I'll be playing is "Alamo Steel Serenade" by Adolph Hofner, which has seemingly been overlooked but which I believe demonstrates the microtonal capabilities of the steel in an exciting fashion. Please give it a listen.

Very cool Fred - I'll make sure that one is on my list of things to do Saturday if I'm not at the Kings game.
Greg, KCSN does reach over the hill most of the time. If you can't get it, drive on over- the weather is better here anyway
Jim -
I just spoke with KCSN - currently they do not have the facilities to archive the shows, but it will be streamed live so if anyone can store it to disc and make it available later that is an option.

Greg: It does in many areas. Unless you are in the shadow of the Santa Monica Mountains, you should be able to access it. If necessary, drive around in you car and you will probably find a good location. If you are close to the mountains, going south will probably help, or you could drive up to Mulholland. It should be streamed live, so if your computer has the necessary sound card and modem, you should be able to get it that way (www.kcsn.org). John: Thanks for contacing the station for the other answers. -- Fred
