Steel Guitar In/Out Jam Albian, Illinois April 17th

Post by Mike Sweeney »

The Southeast Illinois InsideOut Steel Guitar Jam
April 17 in Albion IL

Ok friends, I have given this considerable thought. With the support of a few friends I have decided to move forward with hosting a one day event on Saturday April 17 in my hometown of Albion called "The InsideOut Steel Guitar Jam" (coined by the ever poetic Dow Smith). It will be held at the Edwards County Fairgrounds Exhibition Hall. It is huge for social distancing and we have the ability to open the doors for outdoor seating. I haven't gotten too far with it concerning admission price but I am initiating a GoFundMe fundraiser to help with basic expenses. If you are moved to help, it is much appreciated as that advance support will make the event possible. The steel player's steel player from Nashville TN, Mike Sweeney, (Ray Price and Vern Gosdin) has already agreed to perform and I'm sure I'll have a few more to talk about in a week or so. I am not planning for a massively large event but I hope we can host 7-8 steel players and maybe a vocalist or two during the one day event with a time of roughly 12 Noon to 8pm.

Ultimately I want to host a safe event but in a way that those who can, will join together for a great afternoon and evening of Western Swing and Honky-Tonk Music. Thanks for your support and please share to friends who might be able to support this, attend, or both!

Thanks for posting Mike. This is going to be a small regional event for southeast Illinois, southern Indiana and southwest Kentucky in my little town of Albion IL, but we are excited to have it. It will be at the Edwards County Fair Exhibition Hall.

So excited Mike Sweeney is coming as one our featured Steel artists as well as Mike McGee who will also be featured. We will also have Leona Williams and Ron William joining us for sets in the evening and each of the "Mike's" will be playing for either Ron (Mike S) or Leona (Mike M).

Some of our southern Illinois and southern Indiana regional players will be Dave Flanagan, Vern Mandrell, Larry Dolan, Dave Bolin, Paul Carie and possibly one more who may surprise us. We're holding a spot for him.

We've got a great staff band from southern Illinois and one guest from Missouri including Joe Arview, Mark Fitch, John Farrell (MO), Melody Staff Freeman, Jerry Mayo, Dow Smith and our MC Ron Head. I will also be there fiddling and singing here or there.

We are calling it the Southeast Illinois "InsideOut" Steel Jam as we can have the event inside with somewhat limited capacity, and really large open doors for airflow that we can open allowing for some outside seating as well. We have a capacity of 225 and nearly half the tickets are gone.

If you are interested in joining us you can go to http://www.honkytonkfiddle.com/southeas ... 2021-.html for advanced ticket info.

We're just glad to get back to having a little fun and some great steel guitar music.

Great News!! Mike Sweeney Pedal Steel Guitar Workshop!

Mike Sweeney is willing to offer a pedal steel guitar workshop at the SIIO Steel Guitar Jam on April 17 from 10am-12pm in a side building at the Ed Co Fairgrounds. Cost will be $20/person and you can message THIS PAGE for MIke's personal contact info for registration.
