Great News for the Oklahoma Steel Guitar Association

Post by Beverly Harris »

Oklahoma Steel Guitar Association will be joyously hosting our annual convention this year on June 25th and 26th at Saint James Presbyterian Church, 11970 S. Elm St., Jenks, OK. It is at the same church in which we had it the last 2 times. If you have not been there, it's time to come hear some good music and enjoy old/new friendships. Admission is donation only.
Hotel accommodations are with Hotel Glenpool 12137 N. Casper St., Jenks, OK. For multi-nights, the rates are: single king - $64.99, double queen - $69.99. Single night rates are: single king - $$69.99 and double queen - $74.99.
We are so thankful to be able to get the church again this year. The church board voted a couple weeks ago to allow us to use their facility (from which we had great feedback). It has a wonderful kitchen, exceptionally good acoustics, and comfortable seating arrangements As of now, masks is requested, but not required.
We hope to see you there. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Beverly Harris at (918)455-7038.

Beverly, thanks for posting this. I haven't been to a show since Baxter Springs Kansas in 2019. I will see if we can do this. Wonderful to hear this news.

Thanks you Beverly for putting this together. Thanks for the invitation to play again this year. I am so ready to not only play but see friends and have some great fellowship. Could you post the hotel phone number please? Many Thanks.

Hotel Glenpool

Post by Beverly Harris »

1-800-760-7718 is the reservation number for the Hotel Glenpool on the internet. The local number (918)518-6000. Be sure and tell them that you are with the steel convention.

Hotel rates

Post by Larry Dering »

Beverly. I called the hotel this morning and was not happy with the results. A hard to understand person was in disagreement with the rates you posted. I used the local number and explained the Steel Guitar Convention. Maybe it was just a wrong person. I didn't book a room. I will try again later. Anyone in particular I should have talked to?

Much appreciated Rick. Keep the faith. I've already booked for the KSGA show in October. Your show may be the only other show I get this year. Things are slowly returning to normal and I hope more of the clubs can have shows as the Covid19 dissappears.

So sorry Larry. I hope we can resolve that issue. I’m looking forward to meeting new friends and seeing old ones.

Hotel Problems

Post by R Crow »

Larry, I've been by the hotel, and confirmed that the rates Beverly listed are correct. Please ask for Rikki (this is not me, I'm just Rick). He is easier to understand and familiar with the club. He told me that they have new staff since covid. I went in to talk to him, we both wore masks and communicated through a plastic screen. His English is better and it was definately a little difficult. He told me that if you can't get him, to make your reservations and he will correct any rate issues at checkin. Myself, I would try back to catch him. Let me know if you continue to have problems. We've been using this hotel for the past 4 years with nothing but rave reviews.

Rick thanks. I will do that. I'm desperate to attend a steel show and support my fellow steelers. I certainly appreciate your efforts to get this handled. I haven't been to the Oklahoma show since the 90s when it was in Tulsa. I know it's going to be great.

Nothing new there. It's what women do. Seems like every time I want to go downstairs and play, some shelves need installed or the garage needs cleaned or the lawn, well you get the picture. Getting away from chores is a relief. What was I thinking? Yes dear is my favorite phrase. (Other than the intro to night life by Emmons)

Good news. I got my room reservation today. The Hotel is hard to reach but try in the morning. It took me several days of no answer, going to a message. Never got a call back. Email went unanswered too. Also the local number must be used to get the special rates. You are best to ask for Riiki to book your room.
My honey do list is like an encyclopedia of how to spend money and time. I still squeeze in play time when she's napping or at the Casino.

We have had an issue with the phone number for the Hotel Glenpool. Use only the (918)518-6000 number and ask for Ricky. I’m sorry for any inconvenience in reservations.

Beverly or Rick, will food be available at the Church? If not I'm hoping there is restaurants nearby.

Both Larry, The church is only a couple miles South of Jenks, and a couple miles East of Glenpool. I think you will be able to find plenty to eat. I heard Doug Cole is bringing 25 lbs of Chili.

Hahaha, good for Doug. Sounds like a plan. That's one of the benefits at the Baxter Springs show, not having to leave and find dinner.

Hotel Reservations

Post by Beverly Harris »

It is good to hear that folks are getting their rooms reserved. Radio station 99.5 "The Hoot Owl" is announcing the show, Channels 6 and 8 (local stations) are including our show in the Events Around Tulsa section. Hopefully we will have a good crowd for whom you will get to play.
We have flyers in several music stores, restaurants, and music venues around Tulsa and Jenks.
Invite your friends to come with you.
The church included the show in their weekly brochure, is getting it out on their facebook, and will have it on the marquee.
Let's have a fun time!
