Pete sure pulls some nice tones out of his Fender,

Smoldering. Nice hat tip to Charleton's take in the end of the hook.
Emmons setups are AB-Normal, C? I can do this all Day.

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I'd never seen that clip before, a surprise to me. The clip linked below has been around for quite a while and that's what I was expecting to see. I prefer the solo on this other one, played on a Sho-bud Frypan borrowed from the store where we were playing. Of course the guy fronting the band plays that style of non-pedal steel as well as anyone on earth so it's always a bit intimidating to play behind him! (I'm more of a pedal-steel guy).
There's an amazing clip of Chris Scruggs playing this tune that I was gonna post here too but the one I looked for has been deleted.
(Happy to say I at least play completely different mistakes between the two versions, among other things).

Yes, Robert, I always put Charleton's little Texas Troubadour paraphrase in there. I learned the tune from him when I was lucky enough to take a bunch of lessons from him back in the '70s.

Nice to hear and see you, Pete.
You sure draw some tone out of that Fender!

Ha! I'm green with envy, Pete. I learned it second hand from Charleton off of a record and thought he wrote it. When I finally heard McCauliffe's version, it sounded off. Still hear it that way in my head when other folks play it.

Ignorance/youth/bliss. Rinse/repeat.
